Itineraries  Chapada Diamantina

Chapada Diamantina is a mountain range with an altitude on average between 800 and 1000 meters. Situated 420 km west of Salvador, Chapada Diamantina is so called due to the quantity of diamonds that, until the beginning of the 20th century, provided great wealth to the region. Leftover from this luxurious past are numerous picturesque towns. Lost in time, these towns with their coloured façades are witness to an epoch in which gold seekers and merchants roamed the plain in search of good business. But Chapada Diamantina is, above all, an ecological sanctuary. Various ecosystems are found in the region and the mountain views are always a delight. Its vegetation offers a diversity that includes tropical forest through to savannah. Replete with canyons, waterfalls, subterranean lakes and caves, Chapada Diamantina is an universe of contrasts, where at every curve, a new landscape is unveiled. The region, possessing a variety of fauna and flora, in many cases unique and threatened by extinction, is today, for the most part, protected by the National Park of Chapada Diamantina.

Nature And History This basic circuit concentrates on cultural and natural interests. The trip by public bus allows a cheaper package.
